Trade as a variation management strategy for wind and solar power integration

Trading electricity between regions can support the integration of variable renewable energy (VRE) through: (i) exploitation temporal differences in wind power generation (geographic smoothing); and (ii) connection that have unequal VRE resources (resource transfer). This work investigates impacts these two different trade features relation to other strategies for facilitating VRE. The transmission capacity on investments dispatch variation management are investigated while minimising cost meeting demand electricity. results show when connecting is high, mainly facilitates by reducing variability through geographic smoothing, whereas if low, mostly resource transfer. Geographic smoothing increases share load which be cost-efficiently supplied power, at expense thermal generation. However, provision flexibility limited terms both time weather patterns. It found extensive put place transfer benefit solar power.
